- The IBM i host servers must be running. Launch the IBM i command 'STRHOSTSVR *ALL' to start the host servers.

Installation Notes
- The first time you launch Surveyor/400, you will be prompted to enter information about your IBM i system. The 'System Name' field is used for identification purposes only, in which you should enter a descriptive name of your IBM i. The other required field is the IP Address/Host Name of the IBM i. Ask your system administrator if you do not know this information. You can additionally enter your user id and password, so you do not have to re-enter it each time you connect.
- The IBM i you just entered will now be listed on the left panel of the screen. Just double-click on it to connect. The first time you connect, Surveyor/400 will attempt to load the necessary back-end code on that system. In order for the back-end install to work, the FTP server must be running on your IBM i. You must also have authority to the RSTLICPGM command, since Surveyor/400 installs as a licensed program on your IBM i called 4SURVEY. The back-end code will be stored in a library called SURVEYOR.
- Additional systems can be added to the tree later using the "Configure" option from the "Main" drop-down menu.
- On a Windows Workstation certain types of files may be associated with Surveyor/400.
