JT Newby
JT Newby is Principal Threat Research Lead at Fortra. In this role, JT is responsible for the Active Defense team within FIRE. He focuses on Business Email Compromise (BEC) and emerging threats, developing detection and mitigation strategies, and delivering actionable intelligence through customer reports and internal tools.
Prior to joining Fortra in 2021 as a Senior Threat Researcher, JT worked with organizations including the U.S. Department of Defense, U.S. Army, Spyros I&T Consulting, and Leidos Inc. His work focused on supporting government and intelligence operations, specializing in network defense, protocol analysis, threat detection, and large-scale data analysis across inter-agency environments.
With more than 15 years in the industry, JT advocates proactive threat intelligence, practical security controls, and clear communication of cyber risk to both technical and non-technical audiences.
JT holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, CompTIA Network+ certification, and Security+ certification.
