What is the Public Services Network?
The PSN CoCo is the Public Services Network Code of Connection, a mandatory set of security standards that public sector organizations in the United Kingdom must meet to connect to the Public Services Network. The Code of Connection mandates information assurance rules — especially around email labelling according to the Government Security Classification scheme — to help prevent unintentional data leaks.
In version 2.7 of the PSN Code Template, Annex B sets out the Customer Information Assurance (IA) compliance requirements. Among these, Condition EMA.1 specifies that all emails and their attachments must be appropriately labelled, using a schema that aligns with the Government Security Classification (GSC) framework.
Organizations not in compliance with PSN CoCo will have their connection to the Public Services Network revoked and be subject to scrutiny during a time-consuming audit processes.
