Navigating AI’s Promise and Peril

Text

AI is revolutionizing how businesses operate, unlocking new efficiencies and capabilities across industries. But with this transformation comes a new set of security challenges that demand a fundamental shift in how organizations protect data, infrastructure, and access. From evolving regulatory requirements and shadow AI risks to overlooked access controls and data integrity concerns, the GenAI landscape is complex and rapidly changing.

AI augmentation has enabled adversaries to scale attacks with greater speed and precision, while also introducing entirely new attack vectors, such as deepfakes used for social engineering.

Whether you're innovating with generative AI or defending against AI-driven threats, Fortra’s forward-thinking approach to security protects you from the latest threat developments and technological innovations.

Cybersecurity for AI

  • Pillar 1: Secure AI deployments — GenAI systems are only as secure as the infrastructure, data, and access layers that support them. Fortra delivers end-to-end protection across your entire AI ecosystem — whether your data resides in on-premises databases, cloud applications, or AI-native SaaS platforms. Our integrated security stack safeguards AI innovation by mitigating risks across data storage, hosting infrastructure, data orchestration, and user interactions.

AI for Cybersecurity

  • Pillar 2: Defend against AI-enhanced threats — To counter the increased volume, speed, and sophistication of AI-enhanced threats, Fortra’s AI strategy draws on years of real-world experience, prioritizing precision over power. We deploy AI only where it drives measurable value, using proprietary ML models refined through years of production use and rich datasets. Our humans-in-the-loop approach delivers cost-effective, high-performance cybersecurity you can rely on to defend against both emerging and AI-augmented threats.

  • Pillar 3: Leverage AI to transform operations — At Fortra, we continually evaluate AI enhancements to our operations and pass these efficiencies on to our customers. Thoughtful identification and testing of AI-driven transformation allows security teams to focus on higher value tasks that require human judgment.

Clarifying the Language of AI

Whether you’re focused on protecting AI-enhanced deployments or securing your organization against AI-driven threats, understanding the language of AI arena is essential. At Fortra, we not only understand the diverse elements of the AI landscape, but we actively apply them in building secure, intelligent solutions.

Refers to computer systems capable of performing complex tasks typically requiring human intelligence, such as reasoning, decision-making, and creative problem-solving.

The study of computer algorithms that can improve automatically through experience and using data. Algorithms that extract and recognize patterns, learn implicit rules, and make predictions.

A subfield of machine learning; covers ML algorithms that use deep (i.e., having multiple layers) neural network architectures. The layers are used to extract higher-level features from raw input. By using many layers of transformations, we can do representational learning (i.e., automatically find the appropriate way to represent data).

A deep neural network (Transformer architecture) trained on large textual datasets. It treats text as tokens and can make a prediction about (generate) the next token.

Broadly speaking, ML systems capable of generating text, images, code or other types of content, often in response to a prompt entered by a user. In practice, a very deep Transformer model trained on large amounts of data from a specific domain, and given a sequence of tokens (prompt), used to generate new tokens from that domain.

Autonomous systems capable of initiating tasks without direct human intervention, leveraging automated reasoning to make guided decisions for problem solving. Unlike traditional applications, agentic AI can behave in adaptive and unpredictable ways, introducing novel risks that conventional governance models cannot manage.
