John Grancarich is Executive Vice President and Head of Defense & Intelligence at Fortra, where he is responsible for building and scaling the company’s defense and intelligence business unit in support of the global national security community.

John regularly engages with leaders across global defense, intelligence, and allied organizations to better understand how data security challenges are evolving in real‑world mission environments. Through these engagements, he has seen firsthand how secure collaboration across agencies and partners is increasingly strained by system‑centric security models and inconsistent data governance as information moves across environments, organizations, and emerging AI‑driven workflows.

John’s perspective centers on data classification as a foundational security control for defense and intelligence missions. He regularly speaks to the need for security policies that travel with the data itself, the limitations of Zero Trust approaches when enforced only at the system or identity layer, and the data security implications of coalition operations and allied information sharing. His work also considers the long‑term durability of data security strategies in national security environments, including emerging post‑quantum considerations.

Previously, John served as Fortra’s Chief Strategy Officer, where he led the design and build‑out of the company’s cybersecurity business, transforming Fortra from a diversified infrastructure software provider into a focused cybersecurity software company with data security at the center of its strategy. Under his leadership, Fortra’s platform strategy established the foundation for the convergence of its blue‑ and red‑team capabilities into a unified cybersecurity operating system.

Earlier in his career, John founded Product Fuse, advising enterprise technology companies on product strategy, and held senior leadership roles across cybersecurity, digital forensics, and legal technology organizations. He began his career as a web developer, database administrator, and computer forensics investigator.

John is a co‑author of Internet Fraud Casebook: The Worldwide Web of Deceit, published by John Wiley & Sons.
